Using the Telephone – Part 2

Here are some common words you may hear when making a telephone call to a company or business:

put through

I’d like to speak to someone in sales. Can you put me through to the sales department?

on hold

I’m afraid all our operators are busy. I’ll have to but you on hold.

transfer

I’m afraid we don’t deal with customer complaints. I’ll transfer you to the right departrment.
